West Indies vs. Australia, 4th ODI- Kieron Pollard propels West Indies to a thumping win

Brett Lee attacks during his quick fire 59 off 48

St Lucia: Kieron Pollard’s blazing 70 ball 102 runs knock propelled the West Indies to an astonishing victory as Worlds no.1 ODI team found themselves behind by 42 runs. Everything was going as normal till the half-way mark as Australia, after choosing to field first, reduced the West Indies to 106-4 in the 26th over. But Kieron Pollard came in at no. 6 position and soon imposed himself on the hungry Australian bowlers. He tormented and punished all of them and almost single handedly raced the team to a competitive total. He smacked five 4’s and eight 6’s in his innings and was out in the last over as West Indies made 294-7 in their 50 overs. In reply, Australia got an early blow as they lost David Warner (1) in the second over itself but Captain Shane Watson and Peter Forrest put 53 runs for the second wicket. Australian batsmen got starts but they were never able to convert them into something meaningful. When Davis Hussey’s brilliant 57 runs knock off 54 balls came to an end in the 39th over, everybody thought it was curtains down for Australia. But speedster Brett Lee rose to the occasion and hit an explosive half century to keep Australia in the hunt. He smashed five 4’s and five 6’s to score 59 runs from just 48 deliveries. But Australia ran out of wickets and were bowled out for 252 in 46.3 over’s. Kieron Pollard, who hit second century, walked away with the Man of the Match award. West Indies now lead the five match series 2-1. The final ODI is at Gros Islet on 25th March.
